Full time (1.0FTE/1.0 cFTE) position in the Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. This position will have responsibility at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Colorado Springs Campus on general medical pediatric inpatient, as well as time in the local community newborn well nursery sites of Memorial Central, Memorial North and Penrose St. Francis. This position will include day and nocturnist shifts, including weekends and holidays at these locations.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Children's Hospital Colorado is rapidly expanding, with the recruitment of some of the nation’s best and brightest pediatric hospitalists. As we expand our academic, quality improvement, and educational programs, we continue to provide expert inpatient medical care for children throughout Colorado, and beyond.
Our hospitalists offer 24 hours a day, seven days a week pediatric hospitalist services at all Children's Colorado campuses and our partners with many other hospitals. We aim to provide:

seamless communication to referring community providers
a focus on educating fellows, residents, medical students, and advance practice provider students in the field of general pediatric hospital medicine
scholarship in all areas that impact inpatient pediatric care
All of our faculty members bring a strong clinical focus, while many pursue research in education and clinical hospital medicine. Our faculty also serve in administrative capacities for the University, Children's Hospital, and our partner hospitals.
Key Responsibilities:
Care for pediatric patients of all age ranges, developmental, nutritional, and physiological status in the inpatient setting.
Works independently within the multidisciplinary team to provide quality inpatient care and disease management for a variety of pediatric inpatient conditions of varying acuity and complexity from admission through discharge, including coordination of discharge planning with case managers, social work, nurses, and other medical personnel.
Monitoring of illness progression ad escalation of care for decompensating patients.
LP procedural skills and privilege maintenance (initial procedural privileging can be obtained upon employment if not already privileged).
Care for well newborns in 3 locals community hospitals from admission to discharge.
Circumcision and frenotomy procedural skills and privilege maintenance (initial procedural privileging can be obtained upon employment if not already privileged).
Nocturnist role: Co-management with MD/DO attending coverage of Colorado Springs general medical inpatient team, including admissions, transfers, stabilization of decompensating patients. Coverage of nursery pager for all sites, including as needed evaluation of patients at the Memorial North nursery overnight.

Children’s Hospital Colorado is ranked among the “Best Pediatric Programs” in Colorado by U.S. News and World Report. The Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs has a level two pediatric trauma designation with 115 hospital beds (16 PICU, 50 NICU, and 49 medicine/ surgery). Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Physician Assistant:
Graduation from an APAP approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Colorado license will be required prior to start date.
BLS, PALS and NRP certification will be required prior to start date.
Pediatric Nurse Practitioner:
Graduate of an accredited BSN program.
APN licensure and a master's from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
BLS, PALS and NRP certification will be required prior to start date.
Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification required.
Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado. Will need to qualify for and obtain prescriptive authority within one year of beginning position.
Conditions of Employment:
Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.
Colorado license, BLS, PALS and NRP will be required prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in pediatrics.
Current CO state prescriptive authority.
Inpatient experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a variety of common pediatric and adolescent inpatient conditions.
Superior customer service, communication, organizational and prioritization, problem solving, and collaboration skills are necessary.
Expertise and training in history and physical examinations and determination of treatment plans necessary.
