The Intensive Care Unit at AdventHealth East Orlando is a 24-bed unit multi-systems unit with a cardiac blend. Nurse to patient ratios is 1:2, and assignments are made based on acuity. Our nurses have exposure to a wide array of patient conditions from a diverse patient population with cases including renal failure, respiratory failure with ventilator management, septic shock with MODS, pulmonary, post-cardiac and more.
Our multi-disciplinary Critical Care team consists of intensivists, registered nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, case managers, social workers, and chaplains. Our nurses are fully engaged and are an integral part of patient rounds, case reviews, morbidity and mortality/performance improvement reviews, as well as focused professional practice in critical care.
Our nursing team works closely with our 24-hour intensivist team to provide optimal care for our patients and comfort for their families. We have an on-site provider, available for support should the patient require an escalation of care.
Our unit consists of highly engaged nurses with dedicated preceptors who love to teach eager new nurses. Critical care requires an educational curriculum and competency assessment beyond general critical care concepts. Our nurses received focused education and competency assessment for common critical care concepts, monitoring, procedures and devices.
We are focused on intentional education as well as partnering with subject matter experts to help our team members grow and thrive on this challenging and exciting unit.
