Job Description The University Counseling Center at Tennessee State University requires a Director/Training Coordinator to provide administrative direction and leadership for the University Counseling Center. The Director/Training Coordinator should possess leadership experience, strong administrative and management proficiency, and clinical and supervisory training and skills obtained through documented professional experience in a college/University Counseling Center setting to include at least two or more years of experience working in higher education. The Director/Training Coordinator should be a licensed clinician with experience utilizing brief therapy techniques, developing clinical and operational protocols in a behavioral health setting, knowledge of current ethical guidelines and legal issues within the field of psychology and mental and behavioral health as applied in a clinical environment within an institution of higher education. They must also possess knowledge of crisis intervention, initial consultation and diagnostic interviewing, management of psychiatric emergencies, psychological evaluation and assessment techniques, and community psychological resources. While they may be a strong generalist, they must be able to also utilize a trauma-informed approach to provide student, individual, couples, and group counseling, as well as crisis intervention for high need students. Familiarity with Titanium or other EMR system and HIPAA compliant technology for telehealth service delivery is preferred. This professional must thrive in a team environment in which they will engage in the role of a team member, provide and receive consultation with their peers, and openly function as part of a coordinated unit. Ideal candidates will possess the ability to provide clinical supervision, education, training and experience providing didactic training on topics related to clinical practice, assessment, diagnosis, and program evaluation. Participation and involvement in professional associations or organizations relevant to tIn addition to direct individual and group clinical services, assessment and diagnosis, and testing (as determined by license and experience) the Director/Training Coordinator serves as a clinical supervisor and assists in the design of other clinical training opportunities and engages in appropriate professional practice as outlined by legal and ethical standards. The Director/Training Coordinator develops and maintains strong relationships with campus colleagues in order to provide services, consultation, and programming/training initiatives across the University as needed (Outreach) which meet the assessed needs of campus. The Director/ Training Coordinator will also participate in crisis coverage support and participate in the after-hour /on-call rotation providing general and clinical supervision services as needed.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to servicing underrepresented and/or marginalized populations. Experience working with Black/African American and LGBTQ+ communities in academia preferred.
Minimum Qualifications/Experience Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or another clinically related field with at least 3-5 years of post-Master's experience in counseling, consultation, case management, and the ability to provide clinical supervision in a University/College Counseling Center. Completion of a supervised masters practicum and internship is required. Current licensure / certification or eligibility for licensure as an LPC/MHSP or LMFT in the State of TN (within 6 months) is required. Once licensed, TN licensure must be maintained to remain eligible for employment
Preferred Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Psychology (Counseling/Clinical), Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Education/Supervision, or a related field. Successful completion of a supervised doctoral practicum and internship is required. Preferred areas of expertise include demonstrated skills in providing compassionate, ethical, professional, and culturally sensitive services as well as expertise in areas pertinent to the population (i.e., trauma, grief/loss, eating disorders, etc.). Current licensure/certification or eligibility for appropriate licensure/certification in the state of TN (within 6 months) is required. Once licensed, TN licensure must be maintained to remain eligible for employment. Demonstrated exemplary interpersonal skills, including effective collaboration, communication (written and verbal), decision-making ability, and conflict resolution. Ability to effectively manage crises and complex clinical situations. Demonstrated intercultural competence and commitment to enhancement and promotion of diversity and inclusion.
