The Senior Social Worker works with complex psychosocial as well as mental health problems requiring expert level psychosocial interventions in the Veteran population. These Veterans often demonstrate complex medical and mental health diagnoses that require expert diagnostic skills, judgment and treatment. He or she independently provides, individual, group and/or family counseling and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management at an independent and advanced practice level. If you are a permanent, Federal employee, please apply here: CBST-11151775-21-AMA Major duties for the Senior Social Worker include (but are not limited to): Independently providing expert consultation and guidance to colleagues and expands clinical knowledge in the profession; Role-modeling effective social work practice skills, teaches or provides orientation to less experienced social workers; Developing innovations in practice interventions, and provides clinical supervision for less experienced social workers who are pursuing independent licensure or certification; Conducting a full bio-psychosocial/ assessment of the Veteran with specific examination of current coping skills, emotion regulation, and support networks in place; Conducting timely assessment of at-risk Veterans in crisis to identify immediate needs, evaluate risk, and initiate safety plans as appropriate; Assisting Veterans and their families/caregiver in resolving psychosocial, emotional and economic barriers to health and well-being while building on their strength and their abilities; Developing a standard for the measurement of social work case management outcomes; Receiving referrals from: Veteran, Primary Care Providers, as well as other VA staff/programs, community providers as well as other sources; Supervising the clinical practice of social work students or a less experienced social worker.
