As a Senior Social Worker assigned to the Emergency Department, you will provide direct behavioral health services for adult Veterans and their families who present for services. You will practice social work in the Emergency Department and on Acute Care wards on a regular basis, with the primary goal of providing mental health services in the Emergency Department. Performing specialized treatment of complex physical and mental illness Incorporating complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice Coordinating with the In-Patient SW Supervisor, or designee, in establishing a working monthly schedule for 24/7 mental health coverage in the Emergency Department Providing individual brief therapy, crisis management, family consultation, and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of Veterans Ensuring suicide protocols are followed and completed on all patients in the ED if medical conditions do not prohibit such assessments Assisting patients and their families complete Advance Directives, goals of care, and provides a full biopsychosocial assessment on each patient referred Providing education to the ED team on matters related to petitioning patients for involuntary commitment, guardianship, and conservatorship Completing documentation by the end of each shift Developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in specialty areas Offering consultation to colleagues, students, and peers on the biopsychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills Work Schedule: Rotating shifts between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:00 pm, tour of duty and days may vary based on needs of the organization.
