The Reimbursement and Health Policy Consultant is a highly visible and impactful role that supports the execution and success of reimbursement and health policy strategies for the Cranial & Spinal Technologies (CST) Operating Unit (OU). S/he is the primary leader for US reimbursement & policy considerations. In addition, s/he co-ordinates with the Health Economics & Reimbursement (HE&R) team in the countries outside the US to understand the landscape and opportunities in a fee for service and alternative payment models, to position CST technologies for optimal funding and reimbursement. The role provides an early analysis of global evidence requirements, articulation of the current reimbursement landscape and strategic path forward for successful reimbursement at launch and beyond. Additionally, s/he supports the development of reimbursement plans supporting both pipeline and new market opportunities within the CST OU. S/he is accountable for informing and educating CST leadership, Strategy Teams and Field Teams of the coding, coverage and payment strategies and execution. S/he should understand and articulate to our hospital, physician, and payer stakeholders how reimbursement and health policy impact the health care environment directly related to CST business and its products.
A Day In The Life
Works collaboratively with the Corporate HEPR Organization to develop strategy to enact priority legislative and policy changes relating to coverage, coding, and payment of medical technology Develops and implements reimbursement strategies and programs to position our technologies for favorable coding, coverage and payment;
Provides reimbursement-related advice to marketing, sales, regulatory, clinical and business leaders.
Sits on product development teams to represent the needs of economic stakeholders during product development and plan for evidence development and product launch activities;
Identifies payer opportunities and/or issues and implements programs to resolve/decrease barriers to entry for the CST portfolio;
Works closely with Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) staff to evaluate the economic impact of the use of CST products on payers, including the government;
May create training and deliver education programs to sales force, physicians, home care agencies, case managers, hospital CFO's, medical directors, billing personnel, and pharmacists in clinics and hospitals
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in health policy, health services research, health economics, or related discipline
Or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in health policy, health services research, health economics, or related discipline
Nice To Have
Advanced degree in health policy, health services research, economics, or related discipline;
Demonstrated knowledge of Medicare, health insurance policies, and payer/provider procedures;
Basic understanding of reimbursement systems in major European and Asian countries;
Proven knowledge and execution of US coverage, coding and payment strategy and tactics;
Works independently and demonstrates an ownership in work; acting under little direction towards predetermined long-range goals and objectives;
Proficient knowledge in word processing, spreadsheets, and/or database applications (e.g. MS Word and Excel);
Understanding of global dynamic health care environment;
Demonstrated ability to work with key US stakeholders – societies, CMS, private payers, political groups, etc.
Ability to maintain proactive relationship with payers, providers, and government agencies;
Demonstrated use of business and financial measures and the impact on reimbursement issue resolution;
Demonstrated ability to understand and educate customers on the impact of reimbursement requirements and pathways, and the need to develop practical solutions;
Strong project management skills and excellent track record in effective collaboration in the matrix environment;
Excellent communication and presentation skills -- written and verbal;
Certified professional coder.
