The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator is administratively and clinically responsible for the Suicide Prevention Program (SPP). The SPP is a clinical, high profile specialty program serving all facilities within the El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAI-ICS) in order to ensure implementation of suicide prevention strategies. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator provides administrative oversight of daily operations and outcomes for the ELVAHCS Suicide Prevention Program. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator is administratively responsible for the staff assigned to the Suicide Prevention Program, which currently includes three Suicide Prevention Case Manager Social Workers/Psychologists. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator establishes guidelines for the program and may provide input on program expectations for members of the team when needed by the direct clinical supervisor. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator develops performance improvement plans, and provides advice and counsel to staff related to work and administrative matters. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients served by the Suicide Prevention Program. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator develops and implements information systems to track service suicide prevention activities that may include visits, outreaches, patient demographics, etc. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates clinical practice guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services in the Suicide Prevention Program. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator provides administrative, technical, and clinical programming necessary for accomplishing the work of the Suicide Prevention Program including outreach efforts, CBOC involvement, and efforts at other sites within the EPVAHCS. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator performs a wide range of services and provides Suicide Prevention Program technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies, and universities. Technical assistance provided is based on monitoring activities and program reviews, and the development and analysis of information. In addition, the Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator uses sound judgment in the interpretation of trends and patterns; the application of guidelines; and the recommendation of program enhancements. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator performs program analysis, development, review, research, design, and contact work as possible with various agencies (e.g., public, DOD, state). The incumbent collaborates extensively with a range of VA and community partners, including police and other first responders, county medical examiners, VA Central Office, VA Regional Counsel, and VISN leadership regarding SPP. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator performs work related to the review, monitoring, analysis, planning, and assessment of various programs. The workload for this position is throughout the EPVAHCS. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator implements a successful strategy of suicide prevention to reduce Veteran suicides, including leading the team's strategic approach to community educational programming to execute key outreach and training on suicide risk screening, assessment, and management. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator leads all SPP responses to audits of the facility's suicide prevention efforts, to include visits by the Office of the Inspector General, the Joint Commission, the Institute of Medicine, and others. The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator provides system-wide oversight and monitoring of required suicide prevention education for employees through Talent Management System in order to track, assign, and trend for the Health Care System ensuring alignment with VHA, Joint Commission, and OIG requirements/recommendations in addition to providing suicide prevention training to trainees and staff. Leads all SPP responses to external inquiries regarding facility suicide prevention efforts, including tasks emanating from the White House, Congressional inquiries on behalf of constituents, and responses to complaints logged with external entities, such as the Joint Commission.
