Job-Specific Responsibilities The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist is a member of the Behavioral Health (BH) team of Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) and provides clinical management of the adult population through collaborative relationships with the psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, other primary care clinicians, and the University community. We value team-based care, both within the Behavioral Health team, as well as with the primary care physicians who are all within HUHS.
The scope of the role includes evaluation of patient care needs, participation in treatment plan development, implementation of the plan through the selection of service options, and evaluation of the plan through established outcome measures. Patient care is administered through practice guidelines, which include prescriptive guidelines as developed jointly with the psychiatrists, chiefs of service, Mental Health and Nursing and as approved by the Clinical Executive Committee. Service options based on individual needs include group, brief individual, cognitive-behavioral, psychoeducation for professional and lay persons, and psychopharmacology. In addition, there will be a case management component to the position, involving developing relationships with therapists in the community to enhance patient referrals. Specific services provided include all the aforementioned and are determined by patient need and department policy.
In accordance with both department objectives and the mission of HUHS, the Psychiatric Nurse Specialist will provide patient care during business hours, communication pre- and post-hospitalizations, the maintenance of standards of care for in-house and community referrals, the participation of peer review, and education quality improvement activities are included.
Basic Qualifications Master's degree with board certification in psychiatric mental health nursing with current APRN license in the state of Massachusetts. Minimum of 4 years' experience. State and federal DEA certificate. Additional Qualifications Experience in a psychiatric out-patient managed care model with experience in urgent care and crisis intervention, short-term focal, cognitive, behavioral and group therapies; and community outreach and consultation. Demonstrated work experience in the assessment and treatment of adolescents and adults, particularly in a diverse academic setting. Experience in working as part of a team in treating eating disorders. Fluency in a foreign language (Chinese, Japanese, or Spanish) preferred.
